There are several Fitbit devices available. What do they have in common?
- They all have long battery life which is up to 5 days, but sometimes you can use the device for 4 days or 6 days. It varies. However, 5-day battery life is good enough to track your busy schedules during the weekday.
- It reminds you when you need a walk. You all need to move a little bit each hour for your own good, so Fitbit would notify you 10 minutes before next hour comes.
- All Fitbit devices syn statistics wirelessly and automatically to computers, iOS, Android or other operating systems.
- When you are sleeping, Fitbit knows! It automatically tracks your sleep time, so you know when you are not productive and what’s the effect. It also serves as an alarm that wakes you up.
- You can replace the wristbands with different colors and styles.
Fitbit Alta is best suited for regular students and office workers who just need to track basic daily activities. It’s good for these reasons:
First, it tracks your steps taken, distance traveled, minutes spent on daily activities.
Second, it reminds you to get up your seat and move around. If you are a busy student or office workers buried at work, you don’t have to worry about your fitness. Alta would alert you, so you can move and refuel yourself. You can also set steps goals. For example, you can set your goal to 250 steps hourly. If you haven’t achieved that goal, Alta would remind you and show you the steps that have left unattained.
Third, it notifies you the incoming calls, texts, and calendar notifications. When you are in a meeting or at a classroom, you can know it without missing it.
Fourth, you don’t need to take Alta off because it’s shower-proof, which means it resists water and sweat, so you can wear it all day.
However, there are some flaws that are inevitable. Even though you can know when the calls ring in or the texts send to you, if you miss them, you would need to check these on your phone. In addition, the screen is not big enough to see the whole text messages. Moreover, it does not track your heart rate, but it’s good enough for busy workers and students with basic needs.
For the design, Fitbit Alta has a slim and simplistic but fashionable design, it stands out from the Fitbit Charge, Blaze, and Flex.
Fitbit Charge 2 is best suited for people who play sports and who often go to the gym: they care about their overall fitness and measure their performance everyday.
Charge 2 records heart rate, steps taken, calories burned, etc, just like other devices. It allows users to change the sports mode to running, biking, floor climbed, and weights; users would get the statistics after the workout. Charge 2 provides a summary of the running map after runners finish their workout. With the feature of Cardio fitness level, Charge 2 accurately tracks activity levels. Also, the display is bright and clear.
On the down side, the screen is a bit small compared to Fitbit Blaze, but it’s big enough since you are not replacing it for smartphones.
Compared to Fitbit Blaze, Charge 2 has almost all the features Blaze has but with a lower price. Therefore, it is a good choice.
Fitbit Blaze is a smart watch that cares about your fitness. It has a bigger screen compared to Charge 2, so it’s convenient when you need to check the text messages and other notifications. You can accept or reject incoming calls; you can also see the calendar notification with a better display. It records your heart rate, has multi-sport mode and connected GPS, just like Charge 2. The heart rate monitor is quite accurate when you do running, for example. What is special about Blaze is that you can change the song or pause it while you are listening, so you don’t need to reach your phone.
What it lacks is OLED display, guided breathing, and cardio fitness level. I think it would not be a big problem since it already offers all the necessary features. Although the company reminds that you should not wear it when you are taking a shower, it still works, but I recommend not taking the risk.
The downside of Blaze is the design; it looks bulky. Also, you need to manually turn the notifications off when you are ready to hit the bed.
Swimmers, this Fitbit Flex 2 is the best for you. It’s water resistant to 50 meters! Flex 2 records your performance based on your arm movement. You need to set the pool length in advance. Right now, this is the only option, so go for it. The wristband is ultra-slim and lightweight, so it wouldn’t be a big drag when you are swimming. Other than that, Flex 2 offers all the basic features that you need, such as tracking your steps taken, distance travelled, calories burned, and stationery time. You would get notifications when your texts and calls ring. It also serves as an alarm for you and automatically tracks your sleep quality. Good choice for basic needs.
How to charge Fitbit?
- You would need to take the entire wristband off and hook it up to USB charger. It seems inconvenient; however, when you get used to it, it would not be a big problem.
- You need 2 hours to charge it, and it normally lasts around 5 days.
Fitbit is your all-time workout partner. You can set your daily goals and then Fitbit would remind you. As you get the notifications, you would get motivated every hour. You can also improve your mental health from the statistics about your sleep quality. You can also input your daily nutrition intake on the Fitbit APP.
